Friendship & Facebook...
Each of us has its own interpretation of the real meaning of friendship. Some of us may have had a very good relationship with lots of people in various form and degree, some probably been able to distinguish between having the real one and the unreal ones.
..
Friendship, if I may have this opportunity to provide some light as I am more than willing to share it openly because I feel more inclined to do so, since facebook has become a wonderful venue in meeting people of different background and ethnics. I feel sure that we'll be able to find some excellent insight on how to look at the value of the word " friendship".
..
I believe that some of us, most of us, or the very few among us are more than willing to really have a kind of friendship that is ' for real ' and one that could be considered as ' working friendship '. Something that is true, reliable and two way. We will all agree that we didn't come to join facebook simply to collect numbers or have bunch of names on our friends-list which eventually becomes a dormant entity in our friends box. That would be something truly very sad and unwanting.
..
I do not wish to disappoint some, all I wish is that we'll be able to clarify our position as a person of good morale whom I believe to be more than just an ordinary individual in the virtual realms. ..
We enter facebook probably with an intention to meet few people whom we feel attracted to, or to find someone of our dream, maybe to discover something that will bring us inspiration and encouragement to live life, or perhaps to be reunited with our lost peers, colleagues, classmates and ex's. :)Whatever the reason we have - they are all valid and need not be discussed further in details.
..
facebook is a virtual destination. It is a channel where we find venue to meet those who are completely, and total stranger. For short, foreigner! We are all in reality living in a strange land so to speak. We will not be able to decipher completely how far we'll travel within this realm. Once we became familiar with this life it became part of our normal waking life - an extension of our physical life.
..
It has a huge impact on our daily life. It will affect how we live our normal life in the real world. We will be in between world. I just hope that being an ordinary individual we'll recognize this and be able to adapt to the changes that is taking place in our life. This is very important and we must make sure that this does not affect us in harms way.
..
Our life is no longer the same many years ago. Lots of things going on and the changes is too drastic. Technology has given us something to hang on to. To be hooked up and to be 100% inter-connected. We are now worldwide. Division has ceased to exist, no more walls, no borders, no sea, no need to travel - because we found our place. Inside the virtual world!..Can we call it life? or just a part time experience? what if, this is already your life? could it be? what if internet is a portal? a gateway to virtual life? the bridge that connect us all in one place. Well, the answer is absolutely yes! it is all that it could ever be.
..
Now, let us see how friendship could work in the virtual world and how it could affect our normal life as well. As it was said, we are in between world and this is already happening. We can't change it anymore. We are inside, unless we decided to remove ourselves out of it then we're on our own again. But as long as we are in it, we feel sound and connected. In that case, we seems to be losing our extenal connection to the outside world? don't we think so? I hope not.
..
Friendship is something we all do care about and we would like it to be part of our life within the virtual world. We appreciate very much the idea of being completely part of the whole program. We are more than willing to make it flat straight that we belong and be able to function as normal as possible. But seeing it that way, I feel that we've got to think about it quite seriously because virtual world is not the same as what our eyes can see in the real world out here. These two world are completely different! take note...they are not the same!
..
Let us not be carried away by the fact that it is called social networking and thats it!That thinking- has to be given special attention due to the fact that virtual world is a highly technical world- meaning, the situation is basically a snapshot!Everything inside is run completely by programs and the life is far too different from real life out here. Our actions are collaborated by programs and though we are in control we're still susceptible to vulnerability.
..
We may exercise trust and confidence to every communication and dealings yet, somehow we still have responsibility to ensure that we are not wasting our time, or simply trying to exploit others for self gain. There must be a sincere reason why we allow ourselves to be part of this network. That we came in here to participate, to support, to exercise our rights to socializing, to become a working entity that translate social networking into friendship.
That we wish to build friendship and help others to realize same thing. For in all this activities there must be a solid understanding that all we ever wanted is that to have connection, relationship, and friendship that is available in one place.
..
That would be a very sensible kind of thinking considering that time is an essential part of our life and it must not be wasted for some useless activities. If social networking has allowed us to be in a better position to express ourselves freely, let us try to make sure that we are doing it in a very positive and constructive way. Remember, that we are human beings and we got senses too!
..
If the whole objective is to establish friendship which I believe we can all agree with. Let us find a way to make it happen. I suppose that we're more after ' the quality' rather than the ' quantity ' having numbers of friends is perfectly fine as long as we have all the time in the world to stay in touch and be able to communicate freely and openly. But if the numbers is already beyond our control and everybody seems to be like a decoration on our walls, then it is going to be a disapponting view in our sight.
..
Friends were not meant to be hanged in the walls, they were not just pictures we framed. They are living beings that we call ' friends '. I hope we understand this before we ran out of space in our walls to hang those pictures. One more thing, we are not running for some government position and hoping for some spot. We are not in election period and we should be fair to those people that we chose to be friend with. It is perfectly fine as I've said to have as many you want - as long as we can handle them all and be able to find time to communicate.
..
But if we do not have time in the world to handle them, then what's going to happen? are we going to have a chance to know them personally? to chat with them? to call them up? to send them something? to check them out, how they're doing?. These are real issues and we got to deal with them straight forward.
This is the truth about networking, friendship and relationship. It is about communication, it is about having two way correspondence. If this is not happening, then you decide for yourself and apply some solution.
..
I believe that the only thing we ever wanted was to have real friendship @ fb isn't it? then let us build one and nurture it!! and who knows someday we'll get real chance to meet our true friends in person...
Cheers everyone!! :)
